Scott Mackintosh and his daughter Myley have been all over the internet, instagram, Tumblr, an facebook even the tv this past week. A friend sent me the article (you can find link below) and I then turned on the news the other day and saw Scott and Myley being interviewed on a major news program about this dad wearing short shorts in public to teach his daughter a fashion lesson she’ll never forget.
Myley insisted on wearing her short shorts, so dad cut off his pants to match and they left for dinner and mini golf. He wanted her to see that short shorts aren’t as cute as girls may think.
This is what he said
“I simply did this in hopes that my daughter would know of my great love for her and that she knows of her great worth,” Scott Mackintosh told the Deseret News about the photo of himself in cutoffs. “Now that it has gone viral, I hope that young women everywhere understand their great worth. I will look like an idiot any day if that point gets across.”
I am not suggesting that every dad dress in short shorts! What I loved about what I read and saw on tv was his genuine love for his daughter and a desire to see the best for her – no matter what it may have cost him.
It is costly to be a good parent. He didn’t make a fool of her – he made a fool of himself.
It is costly to be a good parent. You will need to have awkward and hard conversations. You will need to ask for forgiveness a lot, even though it’s hard to do. You will need to step into uncomfortable situations to guard and protect your child. You will need to love unconditionally. You will need to navigate rough waters. You will need to make a fool of yourself at some point. You will need to give time and energy when you feel like you don’t have it to spare. You will risk your own reputation.
It is costly to be a parent. But it is worth it FOR SURE!
