“I know he loves me, but I wish he would tell me”
I have heard this quote more times than I can count in conversations with girls about their relationships with their fathers. Many dads, and generally men at large, are often action oriented. This can be a great thing! You get things done. You problem solve. You tackle issues, fix things, build things, —- you “DO”. Girls have told me that they love this about their dads! This part of who you are is huge in the lives of those around you. However, girls also need to hear the words “I love you”.
Actions are important. Actions and words together are a powerful duo.
Girls need to hear the words “I love you” frequently and loudly by the men that matter most to them so they can be secure in that love and not listen too quickly to those words from another.
Can you tell your daughter you love her too much? No way! She may tell you otherwise at times but don’t let your daughter be one to say “I know my dad loves me, but I wish he would tell me”. Error on the side of over-communicating that truth!
It may not be natural for you, but it is important. You can be a voice that shouts “I love you” in a world that often tends to shout the opposite.
